[Air Fryer] Grilled Saba Mackerel Fish
In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, mirin, sake, honey or sugar, grated ginger, sesame oil, salt, and pepper to make the marinade.
Place the Saba mackerel fillets in a shallow dish or resealable plastic bag. Pour the marinade over the fish, ensuring even coating. Allow the fish to marinate for 20-30 minutes in the refrigerator.
Preheat your air-fryer / oven to a high broil setting or 180°C grill mode. Adjust the oven rack to the highest position, approximately 6 inches from the heating element.
Remove the fish from the marinade and place them on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil or parchment paper. Reserve the marinade for basting.
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and grill the Saba mackerel for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until the fish is cooked through and develops a nice char on the outside. Baste the fish with the reserved marinade halfway through cooking for added flavor.
Once the fish is cooked through and has a golden brown color, remove it from the oven and transfer it to a serving platter.
Garnish the grilled Saba mackerel with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve the grilled Saba mackerel hot with steamed rice and your favorite vegetables.
